"Spiritual warfare" is one of those phrases men nod along to without ever being sure what it means. Pastor Sammy Martinez opens by admitting exactly that — as a new believer, he says, he knew what a battle was, but a spiritual battle?
Pastor David Ax answers by refusing to make it abstract. The reason the war is hard to see, he says, is that it wears ordinary clothes: difficult people, difficult circumstances, a hard season. Men then spend their strength fighting the wrong opponent.

Pastor John Randall takes it somewhere more uncomfortable, naming pornography as "the silent killer that affects the minds of men," and then refusing to leave men there — flee, take every thought captive, and understand that there is no neutral ground. "You're either in victory, or you become a casualty."
The turn in the conversation comes when Sammy asks what each man would tell his younger self. David's answer is counterintuitive and worth the whole thirteen minutes: take the little things more seriously and the big things less. The battle, he says, is lost in the weeds of the garden, not the headlines. John's is simpler and harder — be present — and he explains why it lands differently now that he can see further behind him than ahead.
The last third turns to prayer and the Word, and it is the strongest part of the conversation. John Randall: "It's got to be like breathing. How important is it to breathe? Without it, you die." David Ax adds the line that reframes the whole thing — and explains why reading alone was never enough:
"His promises are found in the Word, but his power in those promises is received in prayer. You'll never know about the goodness and the promises until you get in the Word — but you'll never actually own them until you receive them in prayer."
