Speaker Bios

Pastor David Ax has been serving in ministry for more than 19 years. While on staff as the Young Adults Pastor at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, the Lord began to stir the idea of a church plant in his heart, and that led him to pray, seek, and wait on the Lord for three years.

In 2022, David and his wife Rochelle, together with their four children, stepped out in faith and moved to the Treasure Valley. What started as a small prayer meeting with eight people, rapidly grew to become Calvary Chapel Star, with over 1,500 congregants in less than two years!

Pastor David is passionate about boldly proclaiming the Word of God, fulfilling the Great Commission, being salt and light in the community, raising up the next generation of ministers and leaders, and helping people grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.

Dr. Martin Sondermann, "Pastor Marty," has served in various ways within the Body of Christ for over 25 years. He has served as a Youth Pastor, a Missionary Pastor, a Prison Chaplain for nearly 12 years, and most recently as a Christian author and Bible teacher. Pastor Marty has been married to his wife Lori for over 27 years, and they have three adult sons. He enjoys spending time with family, exploring the mountains of Idaho, fishing, hunting, camping, and he has a passion and love for teaching God's Word.

Pastor John has been serving in pastoral ministry for 30 years. He is also the featured speaker on the Bible teaching radio program "A Daily Walk”, and is known for his clear and relatable presentation of the Scriptures. John and his wife Michelle have 4 children (3 of whom are married) and 2 grandchildren.

Chad Williams is a former U.S. Navy SEAL, best-selling author, and keynote speaker who helps leaders and teams perform under pressure. Known for a commanding, story-driven style and practical takeaways, Chad translates elite performance principles into repeatable leadership protocols that audiences can apply immediately.

Pastor Sammy Martinez surrendered his life to the Lord in 1998 at the age of 21. Through the teaching ministry of Pastor Raul Ries, Sammy heard the call of God upon his life that first Sunday in August of 1998. Sammy met his amazing wife Ivett and they began fellowshipping at Calvary Chapel Moreno Valley in May of 2000. The two of them were married March 31, 2001. In October of 2003, the Lord called Sammy into full time ministry. Today, Pastor Sammy is the Executive Pastor at Calvary Chapel Moreno Valley, and also teaches at Calvary Bible Institute in Yucca Valley, CA. Sammy and his wife Ivett have 4 children, two of which are with the Lord.

Ryan Ries is co-founder of The Whosoevers movement, a nonprofit organization that empowers students at public schools, colleges, and universities around the world to make positive choices no matter their circumstances. Ryan teaches Bible studies at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, and speaks to thousands of teens and adults at music festivals, concerts, skate parks, churches, juvenile detention centers, and rehabs each year. He produces films, organizes music festivals, and hosts a Saturday night radio talk show, The Ryan Ries Show. Ryan continues to work personally with musicians and action sports athletes. Ryan is married to Crystal, and they have triplet daughters and one son.

Pastor Dan Messenger was raised as a PK (Pastor’s Kid), and always knew that someday the Lord would call him to step out in faith for His Kingdom. That day came in 2020, when Pastor Dan and his wife Lydia planted Heritage Bible Church in West Richland, WA. Pastor Dan and Lydia have been married since 2008 and have been blessed with 3 wonderful daughters!
